The National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Kunle Edun, has commended the leadership of Yemi Akangbe, NBA Lagos for taken a major step to promote access to justice by way of creating Police Duty Solicitors Scheme (PDSS).
Kunle made this remark on Thursday stating that it is great news from the Excellence bar, with the inauguration of the Lagos Branch Police Solicitors Duty Scheme Committee headed by the no-nonsense and affable personality, Emeka Nwadioke.
“I commend the Chairman of the branch, Yemi Akangbe; the Vice-Chair/Chair, Human Rights Committee of the branch, my good friend, Mr. Okey Illofunluwa and the members of the branch for this epochal event.
“I trust in the capacity of Mr. Nwadioke to deliver on this huge assignment.
He also added that it is a fact that the Nigerian Police is now synonymous with brutality and rights violations.
“The intervention of the Lagos branch will ensure that the rights of members of the public will not be unlawfully trampled upon. This is new partnership with the Police will help to reduce friction between lawyers and the Police.
“I enjoin other branches of the NBA to evolve similar initiatives that will ensure a good relationship with the Police and other security agencies with a view to protecting the fundamental rights of Nigerians in fulfillment of the cardinal objective of the NBA Constitution, which is to promote the rule of law.
