Recall early this month precisely 5th August 2019, the Corporate Affairs Commission headquarters invited all members of the Nigeria Bar Association ( Unity Bar) Abuja branch, for  a sensitization workshop on the new features of the Corporate Registration Portal (CRP) slated for Monday 5th -Friday 9th August 2019 at Multi-Purpose Hall, 2nd Floor, CAC Maitama, Abuja.

It was revealed by the Corporate Affairs Commission during the workshop that the new features of the pre-incorporation would dispense with collection of all incorporation certificates  at the despatch unit of the corporate affairs commission and that from August 15th, 2019, Accredited users and other  customers would have to print out their certificates directly from their account after incorporation.

Although this would have been a welcomed innovation, however  the stein reiteration from the commission that accredited users should  “ make use of a functional printer, a UPS and a stable power supply  for the printing of incorporation certificate as there won’t be provision to download the certificate and that printing will be available  only once and any mistake or error is to the user’s detriment as same can’t be resolved”  appears in my opinion and findings to be questionable, unpalatable and unprecedented considering the dilapidated or developing  state of our country.

Flowing from the workshop, I opposed the line of innovation and recommended a one- time download with a backup format or that status quo be maintained but the commission made their stand that they considered the “pros and con”  before they arrived with the innovation.

It is not very unlikely for anyone to express dissatisfaction to the aforementioned innovation when allowed to see the light of day as same will birth forth lots of abnormalities, undue hardship and unnecessary expenses for the accredited users.

I, therefore, uphold my earlier recommendation to the Corporate Affairs Commission and humbly call for a review of the new pre-incorporation feature with the firm belief that a couple of accredited users  are not tired of paying courtesy visit  to the Corporate Affairs Commission for certificate “pick up”
