The Ekiti State Government has approved ₦3,005,598,300 for the construction of a new office complex at the Ekiti State High Court of Justice premises in Ado-Ekiti.

The Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, disclosed the approval in a statement issued on Wednesday following the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday.

Olatunbosun said the project became necessary because the existing office accommodation and court infrastructure were inadequate to meet the High Court’s current operational demands.

He explained that the recent appointment of five additional High Court judges had increased the need for more courtrooms, judges’ chambers and supporting office facilities.

“The Ekiti State Executive Council approved the sum of ₦3,005,598,300.00 for the construction of a new High Court Office Complex at the Ekiti State High Court of Justice premises, Ado-Ekiti,” he said.

“The approval was necessitated by the inadequacy of the existing office accommodation and court infrastructure of the High Court to meet current operational demands, particularly following the recent appointment of five additional High Court judges, which has increased the need for more courtrooms, judges’ chambers and supporting office facilities.”

According to the commissioner, the proposed complex will provide a conducive and functional working environment for judicial officers, court employees and legal practitioners.

He added that the facility would improve the administration of justice and access to judicial services across the state.

“The project is expected to significantly improve the working environment and operational capacity of the Ekiti State Judiciary, while strengthening the infrastructure required for the efficient and effective administration of justice in the state,” Olatunbosun said.

The government awarded the project to Axial Nigeria Limited through the direct procurement method in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Ekiti State Public Procurement Law.

The company, which is currently executing a project at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, is expected to complete the High Court complex within 18 months.

The State Executive Council also approved the employment of 30 Persons with Disabilities into the state public service.

Olatunbosun said the beneficiaries would be deployed across relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The council further directed that the provision of the Ekiti State Disability Law reserving five per cent of employment opportunities for Persons with Disabilities must be strictly observed in all future recruitment exercises into the state civil service.

“The decision is aimed at promoting equal opportunities, inclusive governance and equitable access to employment for Persons with Disabilities, while ensuring that they are fully integrated into the state’s public service and development process,” the commissioner said.

The council also approved ₦142.69 million for the construction of a pumping facility to provide reliable and sustainable water supply to the newly constructed 80-bed hospital complex at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital.

According to Olatunbosun, the project will provide the water infrastructure required for the effective operation of the hospital complex and improve water supply within the facility.

A further ₦194.66 million was approved for the supply and installation of transformers and other electrical accessories at the 80-bed multipurpose building.

The electrical project, which has a one-month completion period, will be executed through direct labour by the Ekiti State Electricity Board to facilitate the occupation and commencement of operations at the facility.

The council also approved ₦145 million for the overhaul and extension of the State Enterprise Broadband Network Infrastructure across government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Olatunbosun said the project would strengthen the state’s digital infrastructure, improve communication among government agencies and enhance access to public information systems.

He added that the broadband expansion would advance the administration’s e-governance programme and promote faster, more efficient and technology-driven public service delivery
