The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators has announced Ambassador Louis Brown Ogbeifun, FICMC, as one of the speakers at its forthcoming conference.

Ogbeifun is an experienced mediator and conflict resolution expert whose work has focused particularly on promoting industrial harmony in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

He has mediated and resolved several industrial relations disputes in the sector, helping to avert industrial actions and the substantial economic losses they could have caused the country.

While in service, Ogbeifun represented the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on a 13-member ministerial committee established to resolve conflicts in the oil and gas sector.

He also served on several national committees and bodies, including the Nigeria Stakeholders Working Group of the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, the Ministerial Committee on the Sustainability of the NNPC Pension Fund, the Independent Consolidation and Cushioning Committee, the Committee on the Socio-Economic Impact of Downstream Deregulation and the Committee on the Privatisation of Downstream Operations in the oil and gas industry.

Ogbeifun is a Fellow and life member of ICMC, as well as a member of its faculty and governing council. He also serves on the panel of neutrals at the Edo State Multi-Door Courthouse, High Court of Justice, Benin City.

His mediation practice extends beyond Nigeria. He serves as an on-call mediator on the United Nations Global Mediator Panel and is an accredited mediator of the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution in the United Kingdom.

He is also a Certified Trainer and Certified Professional in Managing Workplace Conflict with the Mediation Training Institute in the United States, as well as a Conflict Coaching Practitioner certified by CAOS Conflict Management in the United Kingdom.

Ogbeifun was elected the 10th President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria in 2003. He also served as First Deputy President-General of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria and President of ICMC from 2012 to 2016.

His honours include the United Nations Public Service Award, Crown of Peace and Leadership Award, AI Oil and Gas Dispute Resolution Award, Pillar of Unionism Award and the Nelson Mandela Pan-African Exemplary Leadership Honour.

An author and commentator on contemporary issues, Ogbeifun is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Accolade Independent Mediators Limited. He also founded the African Initiative for Transparency, Accountability and Responsible Leadership, a platform dedicated to grooming future leaders and supporting people living with hypertension and diabetes.
