Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a total cash reward of ₦40 million for the two best graduating students of Lagos State University, LASU, in recognition of their outstanding academic performances.

The governor, who is also Visitor to the university, announced a gift of ₦20 million each to Ayilara Lawal Olaleye and Adebayo Samuel Oluolamide during LASU’s 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies held at the university’s main campus on Wednesday.

The announcement was disclosed by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, in a post on X.

“Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu and Visitor of the Lagos State University (LASU) today announced a cash gift of 20 million Naira (20,000,000) EACH for the Best Graduating Student(s) of the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 Session(s),” Gawat wrote.

Olaleye emerged as the university’s best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session, graduating from the Department of Project Management with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.96.

Oluolamide emerged as the best graduating student for the 2025/2026 session, graduating from Aerospace Engineering with an even higher CGPA of 4.97.

Announcing the rewards at the ceremony, Sanwo-Olu personally recognised both students for their academic achievements.

“Ayilara Lawal Olaleye and Adebayo Samuel Oluolamide, each of you earn ₦20 million each,” the governor announced.

The latest reward means the Lagos State Government is committing ₦40 million to the two outstanding graduates as part of efforts to recognise exceptional academic performance within the state-owned university.

For Oluolamide, the governor’s ₦20 million award comes only days after he received another major financial reward for his academic excellence.

During LASU’s pre-convocation programme on Monday, Oluolamide was presented with a ₦10 million prize under the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme.

The latest recognition therefore adds another ₦20 million from the Lagos State Governor to the earlier excellence prize presented to him ahead of the convocation.

Sanwo-Olu’s announcement formed part of activities marking LASU’s combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies, celebrating graduates from the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
