The OBRA Foundation, in partnership with the Enugu State Ministry of Health under the leadership of Professor George Ugwu, has announced a health walk aimed at promoting mental health awareness, suicide prevention, human connection and hope.

The initiative, being organised in commemoration of World Suicide Prevention Day 2026, is designed to bring members of the public together while encouraging open conversations about mental wellbeing and the importance of supporting people experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties.

According to information announcing the programme, the health walk will combine physical activity with conversations involving professionals on mental health, suicide prevention and the need for individuals and communities to look out for one another.

The organisers said the initiative goes beyond a conventional health event, describing it as a movement intended to encourage people to speak up, support one another and choose hope.

“The Obra Foundation, in partnership with the Enugu State Ministry of Health under the leadership of Professor George Ugwu, is bringing you a powerful experience focused on mental health awareness, suicide prevention, connection, and hope,” the announcement stated.

It added: “A walk to bring us together. Conversations with professionals. A reminder that every life matters.”

The Foundation said the programme is intended to strengthen community awareness around mental health and encourage people not to ignore signs that friends, relatives, colleagues or other members of society may be struggling.

“This is more than an event. It is a movement to encourage us to look out for one another, speak up, and choose hope,” it stated.

The accompanying campaign material, themed “World Suicide Prevention Day Health Walk,” urges members of the public to anticipate what the organisers described as an impactful programme.

The initiative is being promoted under the themes #WalkForLife, #WalkForHope, #WorldSuicidePreventionDay2026 and #MentalHealthAwareness.
