The US said having responded to recent misrepresentation of its role in Nigeria’s elections – that the US supports the democratic process and a level playing field, and does not take the side of any party or candidate – it is important that every Nigerian should contribute to making Saturday’s election a democratic, peaceful, free and fair process. In an email to our correspondent, the US advised voters to make sure they are prepared to be ‘informed voters,’ which means knowing about the candidates to be voted for and about the voting process. The email reads, “First, get smart about the candidates on your ballot and choose who you will vote for. You can study and compare manifestos of presidential candidates. “You can review political parties’ manifestos and compare parties’ manifestos on important issues. “Then, make sure you know the voting process, so that you are prepared to participate fully and so that you can report any irregularities that happen at your polling unit.” The US Mission further said, “You can report both poll results and problems on election day. “Remember, these are your elections; make it count!”]]>
