Lawyers of Tiamiyu Kazeem have accused the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command of trying to subvert justice over the death of the Remo Stars assistant captain on Sunday.

Adegbesan Adenola and Ogunsami Abisoye, representatives of the Tiamiyu family, in a press release sent to our reporter, accused the police of covering up facts when it was clear that a crime had been committed and there was the need for justice.

They accused the command of twisting facts, with a view of shielding the erring Special Anti-Robbery Squad officers from justice.

The Ogun state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, had earlier said the SARS officers had arrested Tiamiyu for wearing a military cap.

“He was being transferred to Abeokuta and the vehicle developed a fault on the way and while the officer came out to check the fault, the players jumped out of the car and were running, in the process, they crossed the expressway and Kazeem was hit by an oncoming vehicle,” Oyeyemi said in a statement.

The lawyers however countered the police’s claim, accusing the SARS officers of premeditated murder.

“Without an iota of doubt, this is a premeditated murder of a young, promising and rising star by some lawless and reckless SARS officers parading and acting with impunity all over the country.

“It is obvious the lack of diligent prosecution of similar cases all over the country keeps encouraging them to continue this series of illegal operations claiming the lives of innocent citizens without any form of deterrent whatsoever.

“This is another case begging and crying for justice and we hereby demand for the immediate investigation and diligent prosecution of this case,” they said.

Meanwhile, there were protests by youths in Sagamu on Monday, over the death of the player, with the police deployed to the area to prevent a breakdown of law and order also alleged to have killed one of the protesters.
