Int’l Women’s Day: Let’s Unite To Create An Enabled World– Dr. Ajibade, SAN

There is no argument that women are an invaluable part of the legal profession and society at large.

In the legal profession, there have been several strides made by the women in the profession. Such women as Stella Jane Marke, Modupe Renner, Folake Solanke, SAN, Priscilla Kuye, Justice Miriam Aloma Muktar, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, Hairat Balogun, Funke Adekoya, SAN and so many others, have played a vital role in this profession and, in the future, we expect more.

I must, at this point, also commend the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and the African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) for their immense contribution to the development of women in the profession and women generally. There are a number of other notable organisations that have also contributed immensely. I salute them all.

This year’s theme is “Each For Equal”. As we celebrate women today, let us ponder on the theme.

In the past few years we have seen a gradual inclusion of women in vital roles in our profession. But we need to do more.

We need to take steps to ensure that all lawyers are treated equally both in the workplace and elsewhere in the profession. Instances of abuse, disrespect and discrimination should not only be avoided but we must ensure that they are removed from our profession and the nation.

In this wise, I salute my colleagues at S. P. A. Ajibade & Co for our policy of inclusiveness and zero tolerance for gender based discrimination.

To quote the organisers of the International Women’s Day celebration, an equal world is an enabled world.

Let’s do better. Let’s unite to create an enabled world.
