Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II on Tuesday urged the Kano State House of Assembly members to fear God and serve the people that voted them to power in a diligent manner.

The Emir, who made the charge when the lawmakers paid him a courtesy visit in his palace, said: “We will all account of how we lead our people in the hereafter.

“You should all remember that you will one day die and be buried in your graves and be made to account for your deeds, while in the saddle of authority,” he added.

The monarchy continued, “I also want to tell you that, you and I and everybody are not immune to such investigation by God who created us to serve humanity as leaders.

“We will be made to account for our deeds and we will also be judged by posterity for being at the helm of affairs and what we did whether it is good or bad, will be the legacy we will all leave behind,” he said.

Mr Sanusi, however, commended the lawmakers for the gesture, disclosed that the emirate council, in collaboration with the state government would soon submit a bill to the assembly on marriage, compulsory education and street begging.

He, therefore, urged the new Speaker and his lawmaker to ensure speedy passage of the bill into law considering its benefits to the populace.

On his part, the Speaker of the Assembly, Abdul’aziz Gafasa, who led the lawmakers for the courtesy call, said they were at the palace to introduce the newly elected members and seek the blessings of the monarch.

Mr Gafasa intimated the emir on the lawmakers’ resolve to be proactive towards passage of bills and motions that would have a direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state.
