The Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has ordered that all members of the Lagos State House of Assembly be joined as parties in the suit filed by Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

Justice Yetunde Pinheiro made the ruling on Thursday, February 28, 2025, and adjourned the matter to March 7, 2025, for the hearing of all pending applications in the case.

Hon. Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, had approached the court to challenge his removal from office by at least 36 members of the House on January 13, 2025, while he was out of the country.

In the application filed on February 12, 2025, through his counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Chief Afolabi Fashanu, Obasa contended that his removal was unlawful, given that he was not present to defend his position during the assembly’s session.

In response, Senior Advocates of Nigeria Mr. Tayo Oyetibo and Bimbo Akeredolu, along with other lawyers, have been appointed to represent Hon. Mojisola Meranda, who is the current Speaker. Meanwhile, SANs Femi Falana, Muiz Banire, Olu Daramola, and Dada Awosika are representing the 36 lawmakers and other parties seeking to be joined in the suit.

The case continues to unfold, with the March 7 hearing expected to address all pending matters in the legal challenge.
