In a touching display of compassion and community generosity, 19-year-old Samuel Adeniyi from Nigeria has seen his life transformed after his story went viral.

Samuel, who had been collecting and selling plastic waste and cartons to earn small amounts (typically ₦1,000 to ₦2,000 per sack), was hustling to save up for basic tiling tools. He learned the tiling trade at age 17 but lacked the equipment, such as a cutting machine, mallet, and knife, to start working professionally.

The story gained widespread attention when content creator BayuzTV (Adebayo) shared a video of Samuel’s daily struggles and humble demeanour. Moved by his determination and gratitude, BayuzTV stepped in with immediate help: a fresh haircut, new clothes, a meal, a tiling cutting machine, a new phone, and ₦50,000 in cash. The creator also visited Samuel’s mother, learning about the family’s hardships, including the absence of the father and the mother’s past struggles to provide, including restarting a failed palm oil business.

The video sparked an outpouring of support from Nigerians across social media and beyond. Donations poured in, culminating in:

  • Over ₦8 million in total cash gifts and donations (reports vary slightly, with some citing ₦7.05 million in public contributions plus additional support).
  • ₦1 million cash specifically for Samuel’s mother to revive her palm oil business.
  • Foodstuffs worth around ₦650,000 to ₦700,000 purchased for the family.
  • A full educational scholarship covering secondary school through university level, securing Samuel’s future beyond manual labour.

Samuel and his mother were overwhelmed with joy, rolling on the floor in excitement, shedding tears of gratitude, and praising God and the donors. The mother shared how she had prayed fervently in December for divine help, and this wave of kindness felt like an answer.

This story, originating in Osun State, with mentions of Osun Mall in Osogbo, highlights the power of viral kindness and collective goodwill in Nigeria. Many have praised BayuzTV for shining a light on Samuel’s hustle and humility, which inspired the massive response.

Congratulations to Samuel Adeniyi, may this mark the start of even greater opportunities! 🇳🇬❤️
