The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily withdrawn the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates following the discovery of technical issues in the result release process.

This was announced in a statement issued on Thursday, August 7, 2025, by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina.

According to the Council, the decision was based on an internal review which uncovered glitches linked to a recently introduced paper serialization system. The system, which was designed to curb examination malpractice, had been implemented in key subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.

“As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation already deployed by a national examination body. The paper serialization was carried out in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics. However, an internal post-result release procedure revealed some technical bugs in the results,” the statement read.

WAEC noted that it had temporarily disabled access to the WASSCE (SC) 2025 results on its result-checker portal in order to urgently rectify the identified errors. The Council emphasized that the move was consistent with its commitment to fairness, professionalism, and international best practices in assessment.

“We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public. We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter with transparency and urgency within the next twenty-four hours,” the Council added.

Candidates who had already accessed their results have been advised to re-check them after the 24-hour window.

WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding excellence and integrity in its assessment processes and urged the public to continue placing confidence in its services to the Nigerian child.
