The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MAG International Links Ltd, a private investment firm, for the development of City Walk Abuja a 200-hectare mixed-use urban development modeled after Dubai’s renowned City Walk.

The agreement was formalized during a ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing the initiative as a strategic flagship project that will attract private capital and create employment opportunities.

According to Wike, City Walk Abuja will feature a blend of residential, commercial, hospitality, institutional, healthcare, and retail facilities all set within a walkable, well-planned environment along Airport Road. The project site was previously allocated for the Abuja Technology Village, which has remained undeveloped for over two decades.

“This project will be a replica of City Walk Dubai, but tailored to fit our own context,” Wike said. “The investor has submitted the necessary drawings, which have been approved, and their Certificate of Occupancy is ready.”

Wike emphasized that the agreement includes binding clauses to ensure the investor adheres strictly to approved specifications and timelines. He warned that any default or delay in implementation would lead to the revocation of the land allocation.

The minister also criticized the culture of land speculation in Abuja, where individuals and companies hoard land without meaningful development. He vowed that such practices will not be tolerated in the City Walk Abuja project.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the development will be executed in phases, with site preparation expected to begin between July and August 2025. The first phase is projected to be completed by May 2026, to coincide with the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

To ensure timely implementation, the FCTA will provide access roads and full institutional support for the investor. The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), along with the Directors of Land and Development Control, have been directed to facilitate the smooth takeoff of the project.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Kassim Gidado, Executive Director of MAG International Links Ltd, said that while the Abuja project draws inspiration from Dubai’s City Walk, it will be adapted to reflect Nigeria’s local culture and values.

“This development will not only transform the Lugbe axis but will redefine the urban living experience in the Federal Capital Territory,” Gidado added.
