A popular Imo-based lawyer, Nwowu Chinedu George, was killed on Wednesday evening in Mgidi, Imo State.

According to sources who spoke to TheNigeriaLawyer, the attack occurred around 7 p.m. when assailants intercepted Nwaowu, dragged him out of his car, and shot him multiple times to ensure he was dead before fleeing the scene.

Community members rushed the lawyer to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident has left the lawyer’s family in deep mourning. A source revealed that his elderly mother has been inconsolable since the tragic event.

Nwaowu was a well-known and respected lawyer in Imo State. His brutal killing has sent shockwaves through the legal community and the state at large.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been issued by the Police authorities regarding the motive for the killing or any potential suspects.

Meanwhile, friends of the deceased have called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to investigate the killing, suspecting foul play. Sources indicated that Nwaowu was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday for a land dispute case.

Efforts to speak with the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful at the time of filing this news.

The Nigeria Lawyer sends its condolences to the family and colleagues of the late Chinedu Nwaowu.
