*Says The Occurrence Was During Initial Implementation And Has Since Been Rectified

The management of the University of Ilorin has refuted reports that its vice-chancellor, Prof Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, still earns the salary of a graduate assistant after the university’s migration into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS, stating that such occurrence happened at the initial implementation of the payment system.

Recall the growing number of noticeable glitches associated with the payment system which also has been subjected to industrial conflict between the federal government and its universities.

Though the initial report by the newspaper had it that the underpayment to Prof Abdulkareem still continued, the Unilorin management has reacted that it was not the case.

“The Vice-Chancellor said that the first time the scheme started, he was surprised to notice in his payslip that he was paid the salary of a Graduate Assistant.

“He, however, added that the error was promptly rectified and from the second month henceforth his correct salary was paid to him.

However, the newspaper’s report of this incident gave the impression that the Vice-Chancellor still earns the Graduate Assistant’s salary up to this moment,” the statement read.

Only recently, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, OAGF, admitted that the process has brought about wrong payments where some lecturers are paid as low as N6, 000 per month.

The OAGF however put the fault at the feet of members of the ASUU, saying that they failed to be captured during the biometric exercise.
