The Network of University Legal aid Institutions (NULAI) is calling for applications for its newly introduced Justice Education Fellowship (NJEF).

The information available in its website and confirmed by TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL) shows that the fellowship is a one-year Research and Justice Education fellowship program designed to engage select students to carry out research and related activities on specific areas of law.

“It is aimed at providing a platform for young and outstanding students to contribute to public interest litigation, justice education and access to justice.

“Selected fellows will be awarded a $650/N200,000 (two hundred thousand naira) grant to aid them carry out their research and required actions. The fellows will be mentored by an Advisory Committee selected from a global audience interested in justice education and access to justice.

“The Fellowship program will be completed in three phases;
• Research Phase- During the first 6 months, fellows will carry out research on focus areas of the fellowship. They will publish relevant information for the Nigerian public on NULAI Nigeria Action4Justice website; https://nigeria.action4justice.org. This is an online platform designed to provide step by step information on accessing justice systems and enforcement of human rights.
• Community Enlightenment Phase- One of the objectives of the fellowship is providing access to justice services through community justice education to communities and persons that may not have easy access to information. In the last 6 months of the program, fellows are to choose communities and groups within and around their university environment to educate community members on the area of law they have researched on
• Online Campaign Phase- fellows will develop online campaigns to build online community that will use information on NULAI Nigeria Action4Justice website; https://nigeria.action4justice.org

CRITERIA
1. Applicants must be undergraduate Law students in 400 or 500 Level.
2. Only students who have been active participants in law clinic activities are eligible to apply (must show evidence of participation in Law Clinic activities).
3. Applicants are to write an essay (Expression of Interest) of not more than one thousand words stating why they are interested in the fellowship and the strategy to be adopted for Community Justice Education and Online Campaign.
4. All applicants must obtain a letter of support from their Law Clinic Coordinator confirming that the applicant has been an active member of the Law Clinic.
