The Management of of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University has denied the news that the Vice-Chancellor of the University, has suspended an innocent female student to save his nephew who stabbed the female victim.

This was made known in a statement signed by the PRO of the University, Chukwueloka, C.C., Ph.D.

In the statement which was made available to TheNigerialawyer (TNL), it was stated the students in question fought, and the matter is under investigation of a committee instituted by the School. However, the father to the female student arrested the male student with whom she fought and immediately charged the matter to court. And that, the two students were then suspended pending the decision of the committee set on the matter to know who is culpable.

“The Igbo oral repertoire has it that if one isn’t present at the burial of someone, he unearths the corpse from the legs. This is exactly the situation with this rumour making the rounds in the Social Media about the dismissal of a female student whom the faceless social media claimed was stabbed by a male student and was at the same time dismissed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

“It is important to let those who do not know that every ‘living’ institution (establishment) has its code of conduct guiding it. The two students in question fought and this was brought to the knowledge of the Management of the University by the security on duty. The University immediately instituted a committee to look into the matter. While this was on, the father to the female student arrested the male student with whom she fought and immediately charged the matter to court.

“The father to the lady never bothered a bit to talk to the University authority, as it should naturally be, and went on with the prosecution, even as the committee set by the University authority was still investigating the matter. The two students were then suspended pending the decision of the committee set on the matter to know who is culpable.

“Now the rumour has it that the boy stabbed the girl and she was suspended still. Again, the public said that the male student is related to the Vice-Chancellor but the truth of the matter is that the VC, in no way whatsoever, is related to any of the duo. He does not even know them physically. The public said all they could fathom and even went on to call on all relevant authorities in the state to intervene in the matter by talking to the University authority on the case,” he said.

He added that the University authority must investigate the matter fully before taking a final decision, stressing that, the said students violated the school code.

“It is important to let the public know that the University authority must investigate the matter fully before taking final decisions. What is important here is that the two students fought thereby contravening the University’s code of conduct and this, on its own, is a punishable offence.

“The University, as far as this matter is concerned has not erred; moreover, the matter is still with the committee instituted for it and no final decisions have been taken on the matter. One, therefore, wonders why the public proffers melodies from unknown tunes,” he added.

TheNigerialawyer (TNL) recalls that it was earlier reported that the Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State (COOU), Prof. Greg Nwakoby allegedly suspended an innocent female student from the school, in order to protect and cover the crimes committed by his nephew, one Emmanuel Philip Chijindu.

According to the reports, the 300 level female student of Chemical Engineering, Oramasionwu Oluebubechukwu has accused Emmanuel Philip Chijindu, a 400 level student of Computer science department, of stabbing her on her head in December; and that she had only survived due to the kind intervention of her neighbours.
