Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun Olusegun Sofunde, has endorsed Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, FCIArb, for the office of President of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Sofunde, a respected member of the Inner Bar and former senior partner at Sofunde, Osakwe, Ogundipe & Belgore, gave the endorsement in a formal statement dated July 8, 2026.

He described Akangbe as a candidate “fit for purpose,” citing his integrity, commitment to the legal profession, record of service and leadership qualities.

Sofunde said he had the opportunity to closely observe Akangbe’s professional growth from the time he joined the law firm as an associate in 2005.

According to him, Akangbe’s conduct, competence and leadership qualities eventually led the partners of the firm to invite him to become an equity partner.

He also commended Akangbe’s tenure as Chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch, describing his service to the branch as credible and worthy of note.

Sofunde expressed concern about the current state of the Nigerian Bar Association, stressing that the election of the right leader is a responsibility that every lawyer must take seriously.

He said the Bar requires a leader with proven character, capacity and commitment to professional service.

In his direct appeal to lawyers, Sofunde said, “I urge you, my colleagues, to vote Yemi Akangbe.”

The endorsement adds to growing public support for Akangbe’s candidacy ahead of the 2026 NBA national election.

Supporters of the presidential hopeful say the backing reflects confidence in his character, competence and capacity to lead the Nigerian Bar Association at what they described as a critical period for the profession.
