*Says Flyer Was Not Photoshopped

The Prepaid Legal Services Nigeria Limited is offering legal services for as low as N3, 000. This seems to be contrary to section 8 of the Legal Practitioners Act which makes provision of legal services an exclusive preserve of legal practitioners and Rule 39 of the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners, RPC, 2007, which prohibits solicitation.

In a flyer made available to TheNigeriaLawyer, the company says the services it offers include sales representation, legal referral, landed properties, lease agreement, tenant rights, accident victims, workplace settlements, prenuptial and divorced services across Nigeria.

The Legal referral outfitted system has its Head office at Suite GF 2 Busy Mart Plaza, No. 44, Ebitu Ekiwe Street, Jabi District, Abuja.

All attempts to access their website, www.prepaidlegalservice.com, proved abortive. TheNigerialawyer, in a bid to ascertain if the flyer was photoshopped or real, dialed the numbers on the flyer, and one Joyce Ochuole picked the call.

Joyce confirmed that the flyer was real and not photoshop. She also said the law firm is not a non-profit organization but a private enterprise.

She further told TheNigerialawyer that Prepaid Legal Services Nigeria Limited has offices in Lagos, Asaba, and Warri but new in Abuja, hence the Publicity on the flyer.

However, TheNigerialawyer, asked why the website on the flyer is not in existence, she noted that it is functional and promised to share the website Url with me in the morning. she also stated that they planned to have a branch in Port- Harcourt.

Rule 39 of the Rules of Professional Conduct(RPC), 2007 prohibits advertisement and makes it unprofessional for a lawyer to solicit professional employment by circulars, an advertisement for professional employment such as furnishing or inspiring newspaper, comments amongst others. Section 24 on the other hand provides a penalty for impersonation of lawyers.
