*Extends Deadline To April 9

The Management of the Nigerian Law School has responded to publications circulating online alleging non-validation of payments of students by the school, clarifying that over 90% of applicants have successfully completed their registration through its automated system.

In a public notice dated April 1, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, the Law School addressed the concerns raised by students while also extending the registration deadline to Thursday, April 9, 2026.

The Law School clarified that it operates a fully automated online registration system, wherein payments made are verified electronically through the Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) generated on the Remita platform.

“This system has consistently ensured a seamless and transparent payment validation process for the vast majority of applicants,” the statement read.

“To date, a total of 7,267 students representing over 90% have successfully completed their registration through this process.”

However, the Law School acknowledged that a limited number of applicants have experienced validation challenges.

According to the Management, these issues are varied and largely attributable to the following:

  • Multiple payments in tranches: Instances of underpayment of school fees, which affects the automatic reconciliation process
  • Payment made in a different name: Payment made in a name different from the student’s name
  • Use of another student’s RRR: Use of an RRR already utilised by another student, which constitutes a fraudulent practice
  • Unverifiable payment claims: Claims of payment made to the Law School account without verifiable evidence of such transactions

Affected students have been advised to contact REMITA for assistance.

The Law School stated that notwithstanding these challenges, it has been responsive in resolving these issues, even beyond the call of duty.

“Affected students should promptly check their payment status through the relevant campus channels and resolve their issues,” the statement advised.

In a significant relief for prospective students, the Nigerian Law School announced an extension of the registration deadline.

“And to enable prospective students who have just completed the NYSC programme to register, the Nigerian Law School has extended the deadline for the registration to Thursday 9th April, 2026,” the statement concluded.

The response comes after a group of concerned students from multiple campuses of the Nigerian Law School — including Kano, Lagos, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Yola, Bayelsa, and Abuja — raised an alarm earlier this week over the failure of authorities to validate their school fees payments.

The students had claimed that they paid the required ₦476,000 through the officially designated Remita payment platform more than three weeks ago and generated valid RRR numbers as proof of payment, but their payments remained unvalidated on the school’s portal.

They had warned that the situation threatened their academic progression and professional future, and called for urgent intervention before the then-April 2 registration deadline.

The Law School’s response provides some clarity on the payment validation issues while also shifting responsibility to the affected students in certain cases.

By attributing the challenges to factors such as multiple payments in tranches, payments in different names, and use of another student’s RRR, the Management suggests that at least some of the issues stem from actions by the students themselves rather than administrative lapses.

The characterisation of using another student’s RRR as “fraudulent practice” is a strong statement that puts affected students on notice about potential consequences.

However, the extension of the deadline to April 9 — a week beyond the original April 2 date — provides relief for students still struggling to resolve their payment issues and accommodates those who recently completed the National Youth Service Corps programme.

For the affected students, the advice to contact REMITA directly and check their payment status through campus channels offers a pathway to resolution.

The statement makes clear that while the system works for the vast majority (over 90%), those falling outside this category must take proactive steps to address their individual circumstances.
