The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the November 8 Anambra State gubernatorial election, John Nwosu, has given reasons he approached the Anambra State High Court to depose to an affidavit in support of his offer to serve one term of four years if elected governor.

The governorship hopeful said he decided to depose his promise on record in a court of law following the concerns raised by Anambra voters that his election might jeopardise the zoning arrangement in the state.
He stressed that after discovering the overwhelming support of the people for his candidacy, he decided to concretise the undertaking that he would serve only one term in office when elected.
“So, I went to depose to the affidavit for a number of reasons, because, first, we take our mission and vision to rescue Anambra seriously, second, asking for public trust is serious business, thirdly, as a person, campaign organisation and political party, we are not frivolous; fourthly, we believe in transparency and accountability, and, lastly, because our word is our bond,” the ADC flag bearer declared.
Nwosu challenged other contenders that have made similar pronouncements to toe a similar path, pointing out that it is only when they meet that minimal threshold that voters will begin to take them seriously and admit that politics is no longer business as usual.
In the affidavit he deposed to at the High Court of Anambra State holden at Awka in the Awka Judicial Division, Nwosu swore and attested as follows:
“That I, Mr. John Chuma Nwosu shall as elected Governor of Anambra State under ADC on 8 November, 2025, do only one term of four years (4) of office as governor of Anambra State to allow Anambra Central Senatorial Zone produce the next Governor after my term of office.”
In the five-paragraph affidavit, which he personally swore to, the ADC governorship runner disclosed that he is aware of the rotation of the office of Governor of Anambra State among the three Senatorial Zones of the state, namely Anambra North, Central and South Senatorial Zones, based on equity, natural justice, and good conscience.
He affirmed that since the South Senatorial Zone, which currently occupies the seat of Governor of Anambra State, has only one term of four (4) years remaining of the term of office due to it and thereafter allowing the Central Senatorial Zone to take their turn, he is in total agreement and submission to the subsisting rotation principle.
Part of the affidavit read: “I, MR. JOHN CHUMA NWOSU of Oduda Nnewichi, Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government, Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Male, Adult, Christian, nominated Candidate of ADC (African Democratic Congress) for the Governorship Election on the 8 day of November, 2025 do hereby make this Affidavit and swear under Oath as follows:
“That accordingly and by the foregoing, I appeal to all Anambra Central Senatorial Zone stakeholders, entire voting population of the Zone, all men and women of good conscience to support and vote for me under ADC on Saturday 8th November, 2025.
“As I hereby swear under oath to honour and respect the Governorship rotation principle of Anambra State under natural justice, equity and good conscience.
