The Kano Emirate has dismissed a viral claim alleging that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, failed or recorded a carryover in one of his courses at Northwest University, Kano.

The Emirate said the claim, which circulated in a video on social media on Sunday, was false and misleading.

Sanusi is currently enrolled as a 200-level undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Laws programme in Common Law and Sharia at Northwest University, Kano.

Reacting to the viral video, Muhammad Ado, Secretary in the Office of the Emir, said the Emir’s academic record did not support the allegation.

According to him, Sanusi only needs one point to attain a first-class grade in the ongoing LL.B programme.

“We attended a programme organised by Law Students in the University on Saturday, and a student took the video. But it’s not true,” Ado said.

“In our calculations, it remains only one point for the Emir to attain first class. Sunday Dare was a visiting lecturer in the programme,” he added.

A student of the university, Ibrahim Abubakar-Danmasani, also said examinations had not yet commenced in the institution, adding that the exams were expected to begin on Monday.

Sources at the university also reportedly corroborated the Emirate’s position, insisting that the viral video was untrue.

The sources alleged that the video was created by some youths out of mischief.

The Emirate maintained that the claim of failure or carryover against Sanusi should be disregarded.
