The Egbe Amofin has announced strict rules governing activities on its WhatsApp platform ahead of the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association General Elections, warning members against actions that contradict the group’s adopted political positions.

In a statement issued by the Secretary of its Governing Council, Adetunji Oso,SAN the association said the platform administrators would begin enforcing its decision on endorsed candidates for the upcoming elections.

According to the directive, any post, comment, or material that is inconsistent with Egbe Amofin’s adopted candidates will be deleted without prior notice. The group further warned that members who persist in such actions risk being removed from the platform until after the elections.

The association also prohibited the sharing of campaign materials or promotional content for candidates not endorsed by the group for any position, stating that only its adopted candidates would be supported on the platform.

In addition, members have been directed to revert to their official names as enrolled with the Supreme Court to enable administrators identify and remove unauthorised participants.

Egbe Amofin emphasised that its position is rooted in the principle of majority rule, noting that while members have the constitutional right to freedom of expression, such rights must not override others’ right to freedom of association.

The group urged members to respect its internal decisions and cooperate with the new guidelines, stressing that individuals who disagree with its stance are free to associate elsewhere.
