Corporate Affairs Commission

The Corporate Affairs Commission has withdrawn the certificate of registration for the National Youth Council of Nigeria, effective October 6th 2025, in a major move to resolve the body’s prolonged leadership crisis.

The Ministry of Youth Development said it received an official communication from the regulatory body notifying it of the withdrawal of the license earlier issued on the 28th of October, 2020.

In a statement signed and released by the Ministry’s Director Information and Public Relations, Omolara Esan on Tuesday, the CAC said the decision was pursuant to the powers conferred on the Commission under Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 2020.

“The Federal Ministry of Youth Development hereby informs the general public particularly all youth stakeholders, member organizations, and affiliates of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) that it has received an official communication from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) dated October 6, 2025, notifying the Ministry of the withdrawal of the registration certificate earlier issued to the National Youth Council of Nigeria on October 28, 2020.

“According to the CAC’s correspondence, this action was taken pursuant to the powers conferred on the Commission under Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 2020, following a comprehensive investigation into the affairs of the Council, which has faced a prolonged leadership crisis spanning over eighteen (18) years,” the statement partly read.

In place of the NYCN’s leadership, the Commission has constituted an Interim Management Committee to oversee and manage the affairs of the Council for a period of one year, effective October 6th, 2025.

The withdrawal follows an FCT High Court ruling restraining Comrades Ademola Gbenga, Okechukwu Nnamene, and others from conducting a parallel election scheduled for today, Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

According to a report by the Vanguard Newspaper, Justice J. E. Obanor “issued the interim order in Abuja on October 6, in suit no: FCT/HC/CV/3803/2025 and motion no: M/12204/2025, directing the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to enforce the ruling pending the determination of the substantive suit.”

The Ministry therefore noted that it had taken full cognisance of the CAC’s directive, urging stakeholders, youth organisations and partners, to take due note of the development and cooperate with the Interim Committee going forward.

Esan also said the Ministry was committed to ensuring a stable, credible, and inclusive youth governance framework, that aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The Ministry therefore urges all stakeholders, youth organisations, and partners of the Council to take due note of this development and to cooperate fully with the Interim Management Committee in the ongoing restructuring process. This exercise is aimed at restoring unity, legitimacy, and institutional integrity to the NYCN, in line with its founding ideals.

“The Federal Ministry of Youth Development remains firmly committed to ensuring a stable, credible, and inclusive youth governance framework that upholds accountability, transparency, and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” the statement concluded.
