The Lagos Police Command has arrested some police officers seen, in a viral video, were seen vandalizing properties in a Lagos bar.

Recall the video of Lagos State task force operatives busted into the warehouse of the bar, destroying bottles and crates.

In a statement on Friday, state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, said that the commissioner of police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered for their immediate arrest and investigation.

According to Elkana, the conduct of the officers is totally condemned as it fell short of the force professional standards and rules of engagement.

Elkana said that the police boss is also saddened by the apparent unprofessional conduct exhibited by the officers identified in the viral video.

The police spokesman noted that the officers are currently subjected to internal disciplinary proceedings known as Orderly Room trial at the Provost Department, State Command Headquarters Ikeja, to serve as a deterrent to others.

He said the police boss warned police officers involved in the enforcement of restriction orders across the state are further to exercise their discretionary powers with utmost professionalism, compassion, and respect for the rights of the citizens.

Elkana added that the Commissioner of Police reaffirms his stance on zero tolerance for impunity by officers in the state.

The police spokesman said for complaints against police actions in the State kindly call the following numbers 09090003792, 09010512348, 09010512350.

The arrest of the police officers is coming hours after the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, called fo the investigation of the officers and condemned their actions.

Adamu also describes their action as ”apparent unprofessionalism and highhandedness exhibited“.

In the statement of Friday, Adamu directed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Hakeem Odumosu, to immediately investigate and commence disciplinary actions against the officers involved.

“The IGP notes that we are now in extra-ordinary times – a global state of emergency.

“Police officers involved in the enforcement of restriction orders and other law enforcement functions must, therefore, exercise their discretionary powers with the utmost sense of professionalism, compassion, and respect for the citizens, ” Adamu said.
