The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Saturday confirmed the killing of one of its officers in Faru village, Jibia Local Government Area of the state, by gunmen.

Spokesman for the command, Theophilus Duniya, said in a statement they had begun investigations into the incident.

He said, “Sadly, we lost an officer. Details would be made available to you as soon as investigations are over.”

Although the identity of the deceased hasn’t yet been released, sources said he was killed at a checkpoint in the village along Jibia-Zamfara Road.

The officer was reportedly killed on Wednesday evening.

The sources added that the gunmen opened fire on the customs officials at the checkpoint during which the deceased was hit by bullets.

He reportedly died on the spot.There was no information on what happened to the remaining officers as of the time of filing this report.
