A high-level delegation from the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Law School paid a courtesy visit to Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), on June 19, 2025.
The visit was intended to congratulate Professor Ribadu on his recent appointment and to reaffirm the partnership between the NUC and the Council of Legal Education in advancing the quality of legal education in Nigeria.
During the meeting, key issues affecting legal education were discussed with a strong emphasis on maintaining and enhancing quality assurance standards. The delegation highlighted the urgent need for continued collaboration to address challenges facing legal education and to align Nigerian legal training with national and international best practices.
Professor Ribadu expressed appreciation for the visit and pledged his unwavering support in ensuring that educational standards in the legal sector are upheld and improved. He reiterated the importance of a cooperative approach among stakeholders to elevate the standards of higher education in the country.
In a significant outcome, the parties agreed to establish an Inter-Agency Committee comprising representatives from all relevant stakeholders. This committee will work towards developing strategic modalities to tackle pressing issues within legal education and ensure a coordinated effort in policy implementation.
The delegation was led by Chief Emeka Ngige, SAN, Chairman of the Council of Legal Education, and included Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Ms. Ronke Osho, Secretary of Council and Director of Administration at the Nigerian Law School, and Mazi Afam Osigwe, President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
