Comfort Emmanson, the female passenger who allegedly assaulted airline crew and clashed with airport security on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, has been charged to court and remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

According to court documents from the Magistrate Court of Lagos State, Ikeja Magisterial District, Emmanson also identified as Comfort Bob, 26 faces five counts ranging from unruly behaviour to assault and willful damage to property.

The charges include:

  1. Unruly and disorderly conduct onboard Ibom Air aircraft 5N-BXP on August 10, 2025, by shouting, abusing the flight crew, and refusing to disembark after landing — in violation of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Bye-Law 2005.
  2. Assault on flight attendant Juliana Edward, whom she allegedly slapped and hit on the cheeks.
  3. Assault on another crew member, Jokpame Sagun, by allegedly hitting her face with slippers.
  4. Willful damage to an aircraft divider curtain valued at $2,500, belonging to Ibom Air.
  5. Willful damage to a braided wig valued at ₦110,000, belonging to Juliana Edward.

The offences contravene sections of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and the FAAN Bye-Law.

Tunde Moshood, special adviser on media and communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, confirmed her detention via his official X account, shortly after the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) announced tougher enforcement against unruly passengers at Nigerian airports.

The incident, which occurred at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2), was captured in multiple videos circulating on social media. One clip shows a flight attendant saying, “She slapped me”, while other footage depicts airport security attempting to restrain the passenger.

Ibom Air’s account of events states that Emmanson refused to switch off her phone before takeoff despite repeated instructions from the crew and pilot. A fellow passenger eventually switched it off, prompting an angry outburst. Upon arrival in Lagos, she allegedly attacked the purser, stepped on her, tore off her wig, smashed her glasses, and repeatedly slapped her. She also reportedly slapped another crew member who tried to intervene.

The airline further claimed that Emmanson attempted to seize a fire extinguisher to use as a weapon, resisted security personnel, and assaulted both Ibom Air and FAAN staff before being subdued.

Ibom Air has since banned her from its flights and reported the matter to the NCAA.
Michael Achimugu, the airline’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, reminded passengers that, “They have responsibilities, not just rights.”

The case has been adjourned while investigations continue.
