The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Damaturu Branch has equally registered their protest against the resolution of the NBA National Executive Committee (NEC) withdrawing the invitation extended to the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Branch Chairman, U.N Lukman, Esq., dated 21st day of August, 2020 which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL).

Meanwhile, it was noted that the resolution “was predicated completely on disingenuous, meritless and baseless imagination.”

Lukman also added that during the NEC meeting members of Damaturu branch were not given the opportunity to vote before the resolution was made.

In addition, he stated that the resolution was not professional and an attempt to cause disunity.

He also demanded that the President should immediately set aside the resolution withdrawing the invitation of Mal. Nasir El-Rufai as guest speaker in the forthcoming conference and to tender unreserved apology to Mal Nasir El-Rufai.

The letter partly reads:

“Anything short of that, we members of Damaturu Branch would hold NEC Members responsible for unpopular decisions, perversion of justice and abuse of power and we will withdraw from participating from this year Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association.”
