The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a man after intercepting a Lexus LX570 SUV allegedly displaying a concealed presidential number plate in the Maitama District of Abuja.

The vehicle was intercepted at about 8 p.m. on October 20, 2026, with the occupant taken into custody for investigation and possible prosecution.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said preliminary investigations revealed that the concealed number plate bore the inscription “PRESIDENCY” with registration number 10B218 FG.

According to Adeh, the suspect claimed during questioning that he was the legitimate holder of the number plate.

She said further investigation into the claim allegedly revealed that the registration documents presented in connection with the plate were forged.

The police also alleged that the suspect was impersonating a Permanent Secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The command said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the acquisition and use of the number plate and other related matters.

“Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court upon their conclusion,” Adeh said.

The FCT Police Command urged residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with police operations, while encouraging members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities to the nearest police station.

The command provided 08032003913 and 08061581938 as emergency contact numbers for reports.

The allegations against the suspect have not been proved in court, and he is presumed innocent unless and until convicted.
