The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has released the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results of underage candidates for viewing, but warned that the release does not automatically qualify them for admission into tertiary institutions.

JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, explaining that only underage candidates who satisfy the Board’s stringent requirements for exceptional admission consideration would be eligible.
For the 2026 admission exercise, JAMB defined an underage candidate as anyone who would be below 16 years of age as of September 30, 2026.
Benjamin said the results were released primarily to allow the affected candidates and their parents or guardians to know how they performed in the examination.
He stressed, however, that the results cannot ordinarily be used to secure admission or for any other official admission purpose, except where a candidate qualifies under the special framework created for exceptionally performing underage candidates.
According to JAMB, candidates can check their results by sending “RESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using the same telephone number used during UTME registration.
Benjamin explained that JAMB had already established strict conditions for considering candidates below the normal admission age, insisting that merely performing well in the UTME would not be sufficient.
One of the key requirements is a minimum UTME score of 320, alongside at least 80 per cent performance in the relevant Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination subjects, where applicable.
Candidates who satisfy those conditions would still be required to meet the Post-UTME requirements of their chosen institutions and undergo a final assessment conducted by experts.
“Such candidates are also required to meet the relevant Post-UTME requirements of their chosen institutions and undergo the prescribed final assessment by experts,” Benjamin said.
JAMB said the multi-stage process was deliberately designed to distinguish candidates who are genuinely exceptional and academically mature from those who merely recorded high UTME scores.
Benjamin warned underage candidates who do not meet the exceptional consideration requirements against presenting their released results to institutions or individuals in an attempt to secure admission.
The Board also disclosed that the assessment process for exceptionally performing underage candidates has not yet been concluded because some candidates are still awaiting their National Examinations Council, NECO, results.
According to Benjamin, concluding the process before the release of the NECO results would disadvantage candidates who need those results to satisfy the prescribed academic requirements.
“The NECO results are yet to be released, and the Board would therefore await their release before proceeding to the final stage of the assessment process,” he said.
JAMB said a date for the final assessment would be announced after the NECO results are released and the necessary verification processes are completed.
The Board reiterated that admission consideration for underage candidates would not be based solely on UTME performance but on a comprehensive assessment of academic performance, maturity and compliance with all prescribed conditions.
Benjamin also cautioned parents, guardians and candidates against dealing with individuals who claim they can procure admission for underage candidates outside the officially approved process.
He stressed that sitting for the UTME or having a result released does not guarantee admission, particularly for candidates who have not attained the prescribed admission age.
JAMB assured that the exceptional admission process would remain transparent, rigorous and merit-based, adding that the Board would continue to protect the integrity of the admission system and ensure that only candidates who satisfy all established requirements are admitted.
