The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday inaugurated the Open-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge and the Lagos State Multi-Agency Complex in Alausa, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Administrative Complex, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The commissioning formed part of a series of project inaugurations lined up during President Tinubu’s official visit to Lagos State, where he was expected to unveil several landmark infrastructure projects executed by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.

Akpabio was accompanied at the event by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, Lagos East Senator, Tokunbo Abiru, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside other top government officials.

Speaking during the unveiling of the bridge, Akpabio declared, “On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I commission these projects,” formally opening the infrastructure for public use.

According to earlier announcements by the state government, the President was scheduled to inaugurate multiple projects, including the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, Lagos State Geographic Information Service building, Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, Maracana Stadium, and the Lagos Food Logistics Hub in Abijo.

However, the Presidency later explained that Tinubu was unable to attend some of the ceremonies due to urgent national security engagements.

Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications and Orientation, Sunday Dare, said in a television interview that the President had been occupied with continuous security briefings and consultations.

He noted that recent security incidents across parts of the country required the President’s immediate attention, adding that Tinubu had remained in constant contact with security agencies and intelligence officials.

Dare stated that the President had to prioritise “state matters, especially security,” stressing that decisions were being taken in real time in response to emerging challenges.

He added that the President was monitoring developments across several states, including reports of insecurity in Jos, Kaduna, and Niger, and was actively engaging relevant authorities to ensure stability.

Despite the President’s absence, the Lagos State government proceeded with the scheduled commissioning events, which are part of a two-day programme of infrastructure inaugurations across the state.

The state government had earlier announced partial road closures in key parts of Lagos to ensure smooth conduct of the ceremonies and minimise traffic disruptions for motorists.
