Players of the Super Eagles have reportedly threatened to boycott their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final match against Algeria in Marrakech unless the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) settles all outstanding winning bonuses.

A highly reliable source within the team told Vanguard that players and officials are yet to receive win bonuses for the four matches against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Mozambique.

The source added that while the squad remains committed to the tournament, they have refused to train or travel for the next match until their entitlements are fully paid.

This is not the first time the Super Eagles have taken such a stand. In November 2025, the team threatened to boycott a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Gabon over unpaid bonuses, though that dispute was resolved within 24 hours.

In a joint statement at the time, players and officials said:
“The full squad, including officials, withheld from training today in Morocco because of unresolved issues with outstanding payments. The Super Eagles are awaiting a quick resolution to continue preparations for Thursday’s game with Gabon.”

The development was confirmed on X by BBC Africa journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, who is currently covering the tournament in Morocco.

Nigeria has been one of the standout teams at AFCON 2025, winning all four of its matches and scoring the highest number of goals so far. The team, under coach Eric Chelle, recorded victories over Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda in the group stage before defeating Mozambique 4-0 in the Round of 16.

As the NFF works to resolve the issue, the Super Eagles remain firm that no travel or training will occur until all unpaid bonuses are cleared.
