Former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, FCIArb (UK), has emphasized the urgent need for legal practitioners in Nigeria to embrace technological transformation in their practices.

Speaking at the NBA Kaduna Branch Law Week 2025 held on June 24, Akangbe delivered a compelling paper highlighting the central role of digital innovation in modern legal systems.

Akangbe underscored that the future of technology is no longer a distant projection but a current and essential reality. He noted that legal practice worldwide is moving rapidly from manual processes to digital operations, driven by artificial intelligence and automated research tools.

“Technology is no longer an option but a necessity for modern legal practice,” Akangbe declared. “Lawyers and law firms in Nigeria must make strategic investments in technology and continuous learning, allowing them to focus on complex legal analysis, strategic thinking, and the human connection with clients.”

Themed “Strengthening the Bar and Bench Collaboration: A Pathway to Professional Discipline and Justice Delivery in Nigeria,” the event brought together leading voices in the legal sector to discuss the evolving demands of justice delivery and the importance of professional synergy.

Akangbe described the session as robust and the audience as deeply engaging, adding that the feedback was “incredibly humbling.” He was also presented with an award of recognition by the NBA Kaduna Branch in appreciation of his contributions to the legal profession.
