The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, University of Maiduguri Alumni Association, Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, OFR, SAN, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned academic and elder statesman, Professor Jubril Aminu.

In a statement issued on behalf of the BOT, Gadzama described the late professor as an “extraordinary academic, statesman, and patriot” whose legacy remains etched in Nigeria’s educational and political history.

“Professor Aminu was a towering figure in Nigeria’s intellectual, political, and diplomatic landscape,” Gadzama noted.

The late professor served in numerous high-profile roles including Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Minister of Education, Minister of Petroleum Resources, Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, and Senator representing Adamawa Central. Gadzama lauded Aminu’s distinguished service, stating that his “unwavering commitment, foresight, and integrity” left an indelible mark on national policy and generations of Nigerians.

“For us in the alumni community, he was more than a leader – he was a mentor, a symbol of excellence, and a true son of the Northeast,” Gadzama added.

He emphasized that Professor Aminu’s enduring contributions continue to shape both the legacy of the University of Maiduguri and the fabric of the Nigerian state.

“Nigeria has lost a rare gem. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, colleagues, and all who were privileged to know him,” he said.

Chief Gadzama concluded his tribute with prayers for the peaceful repose of the late professor’s soul.
