The Ogun State Ministry of Justice has warned the public against the activities of land grabbers encroaching on government-acquired land in the Odogbolu Local Government Area of the state.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), in a statement on Thursday, revealed that the Ministry of Justice had uncovered a fraudulent and improperly obtained Customary Court judgment, which land grabbers intend to use to deceive the public.

Ogungbade stated:

“The Ogun State Ministry of Justice is compelled by recent developments to issue this urgent notice.

“A few months ago, the Ministry received a petition from individuals representing the lineages and descendants of one Oba Alli Ogunnaike Fibiwoga (‘Fibiwoga Family’).”

The ministry added:

“They claimed that they were the rightful owners of family land within the Odogbolu Local Government Area but were being disturbed by violent trespassers. They also presented a survey plan showing their 350-acre land.”

According to the Ogun Attorney General, further investigation and scrutiny of the documents provided by the petitioners revealed that the land in question is government land.

“Additionally, two large Ogun State University properties are located on separate parts of the land, while other allottees of the State Government occupy other sections.

“The entirety of the land claimed by the Fibiwoga Family falls within government-acquired land and encroaches on government-occupied areas.”

The Ministry of Justice further emphasized:

“The judgment obtained at the Customary Court was fraudulently and improperly obtained. The complainants, who approached the court as plaintiffs, knew that the land did not belong to them but still proceeded to obtain the judgment, excluding the State Government, which had an obvious interest in the land.

“None of the named defendants was served notice of the suit. Shockingly, both the trial and judgment occurred on the same day, again without notice to the defendants.”

The ministry also noted:

“The judgment obtained by the Fibiwoga Family never described the land awarded to them. Additionally, the plaintiffs in that case did not submit a survey plan before the Customary Court.

“Even in granting relief, the Customary Court never referenced any survey plan. The Fibiwoga Family did not mention the size of their land in any court documents. Only after the judgment was delivered did they attempt to tie a survey plan to the court’s decision.

“That survey plan was never the basis of the orders granted by the Customary Court and cannot serve as the basis for any execution today.”

According to the Ogun Attorney General, the Fibiwoga Family, acting through a self-styled developer, Obatob Properties Limited, is fraudulently advertising the land to the public as a residential estate.

The Ministry of Justice warned:

“For the reasons stated above, the Ministry of Justice is taking steps to nullify the judgment that the Fibiwoga Family and Obatob Properties Limited are fraudulently relying on.

“Even without the judgment being set aside, members of the public should carefully examine the ruling and ask these dubious vendors where in the judgment the land was described as the one currently being sold.”

The statement further stressed:

“The public is hereby notified that the claims of the Fibiwoga Family to 350 acres of land along Lagos Road, Apere Oba, via Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, are fictitious, fraudulent, and baseless.

“Similarly, Obatob Properties Limited has no legal authority to develop, assign, allot, or administer any portion of the said land.

“Anyone who deals with either entity—or any other private individual regarding the land—does so at their own risk and faces a firm government response.”
