Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has called for the immortalization of Professor Humphrey Nwosu, the former chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), recognizing his pivotal role in the historic June 12, 1993, election.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Adegboruwa emphasized that Nwosu’s introduction of Option A4 was a groundbreaking electoral reform that ensured transparency, eliminated fraud, and upheld the true will of the people at the polls.

“The heroism of Professor Humphrey Nwosu is the concept of Option A4 for a transparent election. He designed a process that eliminated fraud and manipulation of the electoral process,” Adegboruwa stated.

He attributed Chief MKO Abiola’s victory in the June 12 election to Nwosu’s courage, integrity, and commitment to a fair electoral process.

The senior lawyer stressed that beyond symbolic gestures of immortalization, the true honor for Nwosu and other June 12 figures lies in ensuring that the principles that defined the election—transparency, accountability, and democracy—are upheld by those in power.

“There is a need to ensure that the factors and principles that define June 12 are well implemented by those who are in authority in order to achieve real democracy, good governance, and development for our nation,” Adegboruwa added.
