Chief Mela Audu Nunghe, SAN, President of the Nigerian Law Society (NLS), has paid glowing tribute to Asiwaju A.S. Awomolo, SAN, who recently completed his tenure as the 52nd Chairman of the Body of Benchers of Nigeria.

In a statement released today, Chief Nunghe described Awomolo as “a quintessential bar leader of excellent repute” whose leadership has been characterized by integrity, candor, and professionalism.
“His leadership skills, calm spirit, honesty, humility, tolerance and understanding that everyone matters have made his tenure truly remarkable,” Chief Nunghe stated.
The NLS President highlighted several achievements during Awomolo’s chairmanship, including the induction of eight distinguished members as Life Benchers and twenty-one as Benchers, marking a historic first for the Body of Benchers. Under his leadership, Awomolo also established a museum and archives for the Body of Benchers and commissioned an electronic state-of-the-art recording system to modernize the Legal Practitioner Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) proceedings.
Chief Nunghe further noted Awomolo’s commitment to upholding the rules of professional conduct, enforcing discipline, and effectively collaborating with the Council of Legal Education to regulate legal training standards.
“Chief Awomolo has raised the standard of the legal profession, serving with humility and distinction. His stewardship will forever be reckoned with by generations to come,” the statement concluded.
