Human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana, has raised concerns over the appointment of a Sole Administrator in Rivers State, asserting that the position is not recognized by Nigeria’s Constitution.

Speaking during a Channels TV Politics program, Falana questioned the legitimacy of the administrator’s appointment, pointing out that the Constitution grants the President, not a Sole Administrator, the authority to restore law and order in any part of the country.

In response to a question regarding the administrator’s role and powers, Falana emphasized that the position was not constitutionally backed, stating, “The Sole Administrator’s appointment is unknown to the Constitution.”

He further challenged the administrator’s claim of taking an oath of office, asking, “Under what section of the Constitution was he appointed? Were you elected by the Constitution?”

Falana warned against politicizing what he described as a serious constitutional matter, cautioning that the situation could set a dangerous precedent.

He also questioned the potential for similar appointments across other regions, citing hypothetical scenarios in the Southwest and Southeast, urging clarity and adherence to constitutional processes.
