The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reiterated that its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is not conducted over the internet but through a Local Area Network (LAN) to ensure security and efficiency.

This clarification was made by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, during a courtesy visit by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) to his office in Bwari on February 25, 2025.

Prof. Oloyede addressed concerns about potential technical glitches, explaining that the misconception that UTME relies on internet connectivity is incorrect.

“The Board uses a Local Area Network (LAN), which interconnects computers within a limited area such as a residence, campus, or building, using its own network protocols and local management,” he stated.

He further emphasized that UTME data is encrypted and secured before being distributed to candidates’ computer terminals for examination.

On JAMB’s collaboration with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Prof. Oloyede reaffirmed that a National Identification Number (NIN) remains a prerequisite for UTME registration.

He cautioned that any data modifications must be justified and that the integrity of the system would be maintained.

“Changes will only be made when necessary and with a footnote to prevent abuse of the process,” he explained.

He advised candidates to use the “REQUERY” feature on JAMB’s portal to resolve discrepancies rather than attempting to erase or alter historical records.

JAMB has maintained that the registration deadline for the 2025 UTME remains March 8, 2025, with no extension. The process began on February 3, 2025, and will close as scheduled.

The examination is set to commence on March 8, 2025.

JAMB also released the registration fees:

  • UTME candidates – ₦7,200
  • Direct Entry applicants – ₦5,700
  • Mock trial option – ₦8,700
  • Separate mock trial for future candidates – ₦3,500

Prof. Oloyede urged stakeholders to recognize the distinction between UTME and other school-based examinations like those conducted by WAEC and NECO, ensuring compliance with JAMB’s protocols.
