In a historic induction and orientation ceremony held at the Benchers Complex in Abuja on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Mr. Adegboruwa Ebun-Olu Samuel, SAN, was among the 21 distinguished legal practitioners inducted as Benchers by the Body of Benchers. The event, presided over by the Chairman of the Body, Asiwaju Adegboyega S. Awomolo, SAN, marked the first formal induction of its kind in the Body’s history.

During the ceremony, Mr. Adegboruwa Ebun-Olu Samuel, SAN, was presented with his certificate of induction by Hon. Justice Alfa Belgore, former Chief Justice of Nigeria. The Chairman, in his address, emphasized the crucial role of Benchers in maintaining the highest standards of the legal profession, reminding the inductees that their elevation comes with great responsibility.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. You must set the right values for young lawyers in and out of court,” Awomolo stated, directly addressing the newly inducted Benchers, including Mr. Adegboruwa Ebun-Olu Samuel, SAN.

Mr. Adegboruwa Ebun-Olu Samuel, SAN, a respected legal practitioner known for his exceptional expertise and commitment to the rule of law, was born on March 21 at Ode-Etikan in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. He is a Prince of the Ropeda Ruling House.

Adegboruwa attended various educational institutions, including Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and the Nigerian Law School, Lagos. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1995 and joined Gani Fawehinmi Chambers before setting up his own law firm, Adegboruwa and Company, in 2000.

Adegboruwa is actively involved in public interest litigation for the protection and defense of the rights of the common man. He has handled landmark cases, such as defending Professor J.G Chinwa in a murder charge, being part of the Ogoni Civil Disturbances Tribunal, and securing bail for the Ogoni 19 on behalf of Chief Gani Fawehinmi.

In addition to his legal practice, Adegboruwa is a devoted Christian and serves as the Pastor in charge of Zone 1 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Lagos Province 20. He has held various positions within the church and is actively involved in religious activities.

Adegboruwa expressed his gratitude for the recognition and pledged to uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity in his new role as a Bencher.

The Chairman, in his closing remarks, charged the inductees, including Mr. Adegboruwa Ebun-Olu Samuel, SAN, to actively participate in the Body’s activities and to serve as role models for young lawyers.
