Renowned Human rights activists and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Dr. Monday Onyekachi Ubani, has announced the passing of his beloved mother, Mrs. Gladys Nsomma Ubani, who died peacefully at the age of 90 on Friday.

In an emotional statement shared with the press, Dr. Ubani confirmed the loss, describing his mother as a pillar of strength and resilience.

The Ubani family is no stranger to remarkable longevity. Dr. Ubani’s father, Pa Egbedubi Ubani Nwokocha—affectionately known as Egoro—passed away in January 2021 at the age of 101. His death marked the end of an era for the Awomukwu community, where he was revered as a patriarch.

Mrs. Ubani, survived by her only son, Dr. Monday Ubani, leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family. She is also remembered by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In his tribute, Dr. Ubani highlighted her unwavering dedication to family and community, stating, “She lived a life of service, humility, and deep faith. Her wisdom and kindness touched everyone who knew her.”

The family has yet to announce details of her funeral, with Dr. Ubani noting, “Burial arrangements shall be communicated in due course. We ask for prayers and support during this difficult time.”

The news has sparked an outpouring of condolences from Nigeria’s legal community, political leaders, and residents of Ikwuano LGA. Mrs. Ubani’s passing closes a chapter for a family celebrated not only for their longevity but also for their contributions to education, law, and community development.

Dr. Ubani, a former Chairman of one of the biggest branches of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja, between 2012 and 2014, and later the Second National Vice President of the prestigious Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), is widely respected for his advocacy and mentorship. He also served as the Chairman of NBA-SPIDEL (Section of Public Interest and Development Law). His mother’s death reflects the personal loss behind his public stature.

As tributes pour in, the Ubani family’s story of resilience and unity continues to inspire.
