Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has announced a significant increase in monthly bursary payments for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the state.

The announcement was made on Wednesday during the Youths Appreciation Rally held at the Uyo Township Stadium.

According to Governor Eno, undergraduate students will now receive ₦20,000 per month, up from the previous ₦10,000. Postgraduate students, as well as those studying medicine, law, engineering, and agriculture at the undergraduate level, will receive ₦30,000 monthly.

“For our students, starting this academic session, we have increased the bursary from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000 for all undergraduates, and from ₦10,000 to ₦30,000 for professional students studying medicine, law, engineering, agriculture, and all postgraduate students,” the governor stated.

In addition to the increased bursary, Governor Eno highlighted his government’s efforts to train youths in various sectors. He mentioned that 21 youths are currently undergoing training as engineers with Ethiopian Airlines in Addis Ababa, sponsored by the state government. Furthermore, over 150 youths have been trained in modern farming practices, with the aim of utilizing their skills in the state’s model farms and supporting them to become agripreneurs.

The governor explained that the government will provide seedlings to the trained youths and will be the sole buyer of the crops when they mature for harvest. “We will provide them with the seedlings and purchase those seedlings when it’s time for harvest. We’ll support them and provide funds to run their businesses,” he added.

The announcement of the increased bursary and youth empowerment initiatives has been well-received by students and youth in Akwa Ibom State. The move is expected to provide financial relief to students and their families, as well as create opportunities for skill development and entrepreneurship among the youth population.

Governor Eno’s commitment to investing in education and youth empowerment aligns with his administration’s goals of driving sustainable development and creating a brighter future for the people of Akwa Ibom State.
