*Expands Reach Across Nigeria, Opens Abuja Liaison Office And Kano Branch
*Reports 23% Revenue Increase, Handles ₦3.7 Billion And $105 Million In Arbitration Claims

The Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb), the premier arbitration and ADR institute in Sub-Saharan Africa, held its 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, 7 August 2024, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos State.

According to a press release issued by Shola Oshodi-John, FCArb, Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NICArb, the meeting saw the election and re-election of distinguished members to the Governing Council.

Nine members of the Institute’s Governing Council were re-elected for another one-year tenure, including Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, OFR, SAN, FCArb, who will continue to serve as the President and Chairman of the Council. Other re-elected members include Mr. Damian D. Dodo, OFR, SAN, FCArb; Prof. Taiwo Osipitan, SAN, FCArb; Mr. Jude T. U. Nnodum, OFR, SAN, FCArb; Mr. Mike Igbokwe, SAN, FCArb; Mr. Omoruyi Augustine Omonuwa, OFR, SAN, FCArb; Mrs. Priscilla Ogwemoh, FCArb; Mr. Adebayo Adenipekun, SAN, FCArb; and Mrs. Shola Oshodi-John, FCArb, who will continue as the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer.

In addition to the re-elected members, eight new members were elected to the Governing Council for a two-year term. The newly elected members include Mr. Rafiu A. Lawal-Rabana, SAN, FCArb; Mr. Uche Val Obi, SAN, FCArb; Prof. Damilola Olawuyi, SAN, FCArb; Hon. Justice Rita Pemu, JCA (Rtd), FCArb; Dr. Francis Ohiwere Oleghe, FCArb, who will serve as the General Secretary; Mr. Sebastine Hon, SAN, FCArb; Mrs. Rosecana Ankama, FCArb; and Engr Kashim Abdul Alli, FCArb.

During the AGM, the President, Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, OFR, SAN, FCArb, reported on the institute’s impressive performance in the previous year. NICArb experienced a robust increase of 23% in revenue compared to 2022, and the ADR Center handled arbitration matters with claims totaling ₦3,720,900,000 and $105,000,000. As part of its strategy for 2023, NICArb expanded its reach and deepened its roots across Nigeria by establishing the Abuja liaison office and creating a full-fledged branch in Kano State. The institute also expanded its training programs and enhanced its service options, enabling strategic investments in key areas to make a significant impact in the industry.

Prof. Ajogwu urged the newly elected and re-elected Council members to remain committed to the institute’s cause and strive to maintain and surpass the current admirable growth of the organization. With its strong leadership and strategic initiatives, NICArb is well-positioned to continue its role as a leading arbitration and ADR institute in Sub-Saharan Africa.
