The Chief Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Hon. Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, has carried out a renumbering of courts in the FCT Judiciary following the recent retirement of Hon. Justice Muawiyya Baba Idris.

In a letter dated January 9th 2024 addressed to all Honorable Judges of the FCT High Court, Chief Judge Yusuf notified the new court numbers and locations for the 57 serving judges across the capital city.

The reassignment was necessary to fill the vacancy left by Justice Idris’ exit from the bench and to redistribute caseloads for optimal administration of justice.

Chief Judge Yusuf outlined the names, stations, and new court numbers for all the serving judges in FCT from Justices H.B. Yusuf at Court 1 in Maitama through to Hon. Justice J.A. Aina at Court 2 in Kwali.

The circular reflects the Chief Judge’s oversight responsibility to order judiciary operations, including regulating judges’ assignments.

Legal observers say the move could speed up pending cases and cut backlogs through efficient dockets management under Chief Judge Yusuf’s direction.

With courts now properly matched to FCT judges from January 2024, analysts expect improved case handling as Justice Idris’ retirement brought an opportunity to reorder distributions.
