The monarch died after spending 16 years on the throne. The foremost monarch who was installed by the traditional kingmakers led by Ojomoluda of Owo in 1999 was given official recognition by the State Government on December 11, 2003. The monarch who succeeded his late father, Sir Titus Olateru-Olagbegi after a protracted battle for the throne by the three major Royal Houses of the town died at 77. The three Royal Houses include the Ajike, Ogunoye and Olateru-Olagbegi. The monarch who was the eldest son of his late father Sir Olateru- Olagbegi was given the staff of office by late Governor Olusegun Agagu on December 11 2003. Oba Folagbade Olateru-Olagbegi was a lawyer. He was appointed Chancellor of the University of Benin in 2005 and later Chancellor University of Abuja. The monarch who is currently the Chancellor of the University of Jos was a former Chairman of the State Council of Obas. He was a lawyer and received his first degree in law from London, UK and attended Nigeria Law school, in 1968 before practising Law under the tutelage of late Fatai Williams and rose to the peak of his career as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. He was a lecturer in the Nigerian Law School, where he retired as a reader in 1999. He is married to Ololade Olateru-Olagbegi, a barrister and law lecturer at Ondo State University, and they are blessed with children. However, the Olowo-in-Council said the first class monarch has not died. The Council said the monarch only travelled and would soon return to the palace. But a source in the palace said the monarch died early in the day after battling with an undisclosed ailment. He said the Olowo-in-Council is the only body that can officially announce the death of the monarch.]]>
