The Zamfara State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension of Hon. Amiru Ahmad Keta, the lawmaker representing Tsafe West Constituency, with immediate effect following his apology to the House.

The decision was announced on Monday after the House considered a report by its Committee on Ethics and Privileges on Keta’s apology letter.

The development was disclosed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Assembly, Bello Madaro Kurya.

Keta was among eight lawmakers earlier suspended by the House.

Presenting the committee’s report during plenary, its Chairman, Hon. Nura Dahiru Sabon Birnin Dan Ali, who represents Birnin Magaji Constituency, recommended that Keta’s suspension be lifted immediately.

The committee also advised the reinstated lawmaker to withdraw all pending court cases he had instituted against the Zamfara State House of Assembly and the Zamfara State Government.

Following deliberations by members, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, announced that the House had unanimously adopted the recommendation and restored Keta to the Assembly.

Moriki said the decision took immediate effect.

The Speaker also indicated that the House was willing to consider the cases of the other suspended lawmakers if they tendered unconditional apologies.

He said the Assembly remained open to reconciliation with any of the affected members prepared to follow the same path taken by Keta.

Moriki commended the Committee on Ethics and Privileges for what he described as its diligent handling of the matter.

With the resolution, Keta is expected to resume his legislative duties as the representative of Tsafe West Constituency, subject to the House’s recommendation that he discontinue the pending legal actions against the legislature and the state government.
