*Says Niger Delta Cause Has Been Abandoned

A supporter from the Niger Delta region has called out Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, accusing him of telling youths to stop illegal crude oil bunkering while government officials allegedly engage in illegal crude loading.

The supporter, whose name could not be verified, made the remarks in a video that has gone viral on social media, expressing frustration over the perceived abandonment of the Niger Delta cause by those who have benefited from government contracts.

The supporter directly addressed Tompolo, who holds the pipeline surveillance contract with the Nigerian government.

“Oga, the same one no do kpo fire again. Now look at them. See them, they go load crude oil. Show them the river. Show them the barge, they go load. There are some illegal, and there are some legal. They go load,” the supporter stated.

“But then they do the kpo fire now, today now who will dey for house? They suffer. See our boys, they suffer.

“Tompolo, you do your work, make we do our work. No be na you be pipeline surveillance. Do your work, make we also go do our work, so that our resource control go dey continue, and then our Niger Delta Republic will still go forward.”

The supporter accused those who have received government contracts of abandoning the Niger Delta struggle.

“We stand for resource control. Today now, we no dey control our resources again, na security we be. We stand for Niger Delta Republic. Today now, we are nobody.

“Everybody take contract, they enter house. This one go take contract enter house, this one go take contract enter house. Our cause, we don throw am, we don forget am. No! No now.”

Chief Government Ekpemupolo, a former Niger Delta militant leader, was awarded a pipeline surveillance contract by the Nigerian government to protect oil installations and combat crude oil theft in the region.

Since the contract was awarded, there have been reports of reduced illegal bunkering activities in some parts of the Niger Delta. However, critics have questioned the arrangement, with some accusing beneficiaries of the contract of abandoning the original Niger Delta struggle for resource control.
