A frontline aspirant for the office of the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, has dismissed suggestions that he intends to become President of the Association through judicial orders or by relying on court processes rather than the votes of members.

In a statement addressed to members of the legal profession, Akinboro pushed back against claims that he intends to clinch the NBA presidency through judicial orders rather than the votes of members. He described such suggestions as entirely false, reaffirming that his belief in democratic processes within the Bar remains “unwavering.”
The senior lawyer also rejected allegations that he supports any reversal of universal suffrage or changes that would undermine the NBA’s constitutional framework for elections. He stressed that the Association should serve as a model for the nation on how elections should be conducted in strict compliance with established rules.
Addressing the heated debate around the Egbe Amofin consultation, Akinboro posed a series of pointed questions to fellow aspirants and the wider legal community. He noted that all presidential aspirants voluntarily appeared before Egbe Amofin during the process and questioned why objections about partiality are only emerging after the conclusion. He asked whether the same criticisms would have surfaced had the outcome favored a different candidate.
Akinboro clarified that he did not found Egbe Amofin, stating that he met the organization already in existence and participated as a member. He said the consultation was based on voluntary invitations tied to broader discussions around zoning and micro-zoning within the NBA.
The former General Secretary called on colleagues to approach ongoing discussions with civility and professionalism, urging the legal community to prioritize the unity and institutional integrity of the Association.
